Sarah and Jerry have been married for seven years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they decided to have a family and so they consciously developed an extraordinarily dynamic social life.

Not only this, but Jerry’s last two or three performance appraisals at the office have been less than adequate and he has begun to fail to recall what he says or does when he drinks. As a final point, Jerry has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to agonize over his drinking situation.

In a similar way, Sarah has been feeling dejected about things in her life and to deal with these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past three years. Not only this, but Sarah has been getting a lot of headaches and experiencing excruciating hangovers after drinking. Lastly, Sarah has been feeling significantly less active in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been getting some unkind criticism from her friends, family members, relatives, and coworkers about her irresponsible drinking.

One Thursday evening while watching TV, Sarah and Jerry happened upon a remarkable documentary about the signs of alcoholism.

This TV special was a real source of revelation to Sarah and Jerry because numerous alcoholism signs that were gone over looked like they were indisputably linked to several of the alcohol-related drinking problems Jerry and Sarah had been experiencing.

After watching the TV special, Sarah and Jerry determined that they needed to have an honest conversation about their drinking circumstances. They both were in agreement that most, if not all, of their social activities included drinking, that they were drinking in an irresponsible manner, and that as a couple, they were beginning to observe alcohol related relationship, health, financial, employment, and legal problems for the first time in their lives.

Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s inquiry and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the therapists at the local alcohol abuse treatment center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking circumstances.
