A Young Man Decides to See His Family Physician About His Depression and His Alcohol Problems
Denny is a fifteen-year-old youth who has eventually made up his mind that he needs to go and see his family healthcare practitioner about his careless and excessive drinking. At first, Denny thought he would be able to simply go on the world wide web, look for some straightforward alcohol info and determine whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.
Not unexpectedly, he located a number of websites that highlighted some of the commonplace alcoholism symptoms. That’s the encouraging news. The less positive news, unfortunately, was that Denny showed evidence of a host of these alcoholism symptoms.
Alcohol Addiction Symptoms Revisited
For example, Denny has been drinking increasingly more than usual and he has begun to have more impassioned disagreements with the young girl he is dating. Furthermore, for the first time in his young life he has been encountering sleeping difficulties. Similarly, Denny habitually has felt depressed and on an increasing basis he has been exhibiting limited concentration at school. What is more, he has felt highly stressed and more edgy on a regular basis and for the past eight or nine months he has exhibited befuddled thinking while at school. Seeing as Denny has been displaying all of these symptoms, he was understandably worried about his drinking problems.
So Denny finally determined that he needed to contact his family healthcare practitioner and ask for an appointment. As it happens, this was tough for Denny because his healthcare practitioner was also his parents’ family doctor. The root of his distress was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and expose his abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior to his family healthcare practitioner.
When Denny arrived at the healthcare professional’s office, he candidly notified the family physician about the concern he feels about his hazardous drinking behavior. When the family doctor asked what was triggering this trepidation, Denny articulated that he had gone online and read about alcoholism and especially about alcohol addiction symptoms. He then listed all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he without a doubt thought he possesses.
A Comprehensive Physical Exam and Outpatient Alcohol Treatment
The doctor informed Denny that it was smart of him to deal with his problem drinking, he gave Denny an in depth physical appraisal, and suggested that he talk to his Mom and Dad about enrolling in an out-patient alcohol rehab center that was managed by Doctor Kanter, one of his doctor accomplices who is a substance abuse and chemical dependency specialist.
In the same way, when Denny stated that he has been feeling a sense of gloom to an increasing degree, the healthcare practitioner notified Denny that depression and alcoholism on a fairly regular basis transpire in the same person. Accordingly, the family physician also recommended that Denny talk to his Mother and Father about obtaining therapy in order to focus on his sense of despair. In fact, Denny can go to the local mental health clinic and make an appointment with Doctor Johnson, an eminent clinical psychologist who specializes in treating teens.
The Value of Coping With Your Drinking Difficulties and Getting Optimistic About Making Healthy and Positive Changes in Your Life
The healthcare practitioner made it a point to notify Denny that he might not inevitably be dependent on alcohol, but that he was evidently drinking in an irresponsible manner. Stated another way, Denny was involving himself in teen alcohol abuse. The healthcare practitioner then informed Denny that the reason he suggested alcohol rehabilitation in the first place was because he wanted him to face up to his drinking difficulties, make sure that he prevented them from going downhill further, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to fully quit drinking.
In a word, by successfully treating his drinking problems, Denny would be able to get his drinking difficulties under control and quit the negative series of events that could most likely lead to alcoholism.
Denny clearly did not look forward to facing his Mom and Dad about his hazardous drinking and his depression. And he certainly did not want to face the thought of enrolling in an alcohol rehab facility. And as a final point, he was not ecstatic about going to a psychologist about his excessive sadness. Irrespective of these apprehensions, nonetheless, Denny in actual fact felt some emotional relief for the first time in many months because he ultimately gave up making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind that he needed to do something constructive about his hazardous drinking.
