Do Microdermabrasion Acne Treatments Work?

Many people, especially teenagers, have to deal with acne on a daily basis. And for the unfortunate, it carried into our adult years. While acne may appear on other areas of the body, the face is the area that is usually affected by acne the most. Acne can result in long-term damage to the skin on the face, but treatments like microdermabrasion can help to restore the look of healthy skin.

Microdermabrasion is a method that can reverse damage that has occurred to the skin as a result of numerous conditions. In addition to acne, these conditions include too much sun exposure, pollution, and other chemical agents.

This non-abrasive technique works by using a microcrystal spray that is designed to remove the outermost layer of the skin. Acne may cause permanent markings on the skin of the face. This damage is usually contained to the top layers of skin.

It is these layers that microdermabrasion is designed to remove, reversing the effects of acne and/or other factors that damaged the skin. This type of procedure has elements that encourage new skin to grow where the layers have been removed. These elements known as elastin and collagen are elements that help the skin return to its original condition after it is poked or pinched. Since this treatment causes elastin to react, the skin on the face does this same thing. This allows the conditions of the skin to be improved and may help the skin recover from effects such as those caused by acne.

Microdermabrasion treatments are non-invasive as opposed to other methods that may be invasive. These more invasive treatments include skin resurfacing and laser skin resurfacing or chemical peels. You will see positive results with those treatments, but you will spend more time and money to do so.

There are various methods of microdermabrasion acne procedures that can provide positive results. On popular method that has been used for years is called crystal microdermabrasion. This type of microdermabrasion utilizes crystals for the exfoliating process. These crystals are blasted onto small areas using very high amounts of pressure.

Diamond microdermabrasion is another method used to help clear up side effects of acne, this method uses a diamond tipped wand. During treatment these wands are glided over the skin, resulting in smooth skin. The diamond microdermabrasion is a newer method that many people think offers a much better result on their faces.

No matter which microdermabrasion acne treatment you use, you may find that your skin is returned back to its original condition or close to it, reversing the effects caused by acne. These methods do not involve surgery and can usually provide positive results in just a few sessions. Before using any procedure it is a good idea to consult a physician or dermatologist.
